21st Century Intellectuals
Oct 05, 2025
Garys Economics is a really interesting channel where *originally* he tries to explain basically how rising wealth inequality is leading to the end of the world (of the developed economies at least).
Recently it's somewhat become his venting outlet on how the intellectuals and "smart" people who politicians go for advice are oblivious to the pending doom and try very hard not to listen to him.
Don't get me wrong, he's a very very very noble person for trying to make the world a better place for everyone, but it's almost therapeutical to hear somebody as smart as he is (and with a substantial social media following) to get totally frustrated while trying to convince people holding positions of power to consider the pressing issues he's seeing. The sheer ignorance and stupidity of the whole thing. It kinda validates my own priors, i.e. people are stupid, and people in positions of power are even more stupid (in the long game, not necessarily the short one) than one might think.
And of course the intellectuals and academia do not listen, because if they did, my prediction that they'd be on the wrong side of history wouldn't play out.
