LoTR Fellowship
Dec 04, 2025
Was bored on a flight back to Hong Kong, there was nothing to watch, so I watched Part I of the Lord of the Rings trilogy films (Fellowship of the Ring)
I thought I knew the story, but after like 20+ years I don't really recall most of the details, and I realized I only knew vague key points of the story line.
Anyway. There are quite a few scenes which make me suspect the World of Warcraft designers had borrowed quite a few ideas from the movie itself.
The character death -> ghost/spirit form was widely known and publicly acknowledged, but also the architecture of the elven dwellings, replicated in night elf towns and city in WoW; you can even see the huge halls of Moria (and the never-ending swarms of critter-mobs) in the BRD Shadowforge Flame Keeper room. BRD is kinda Moria-esque but the halls before the Emp room really looks like the one depicted in the movie.
Moria was fair game though. Was basically a dungeon (in terms of gameplay).
