myth of the asian tiger mom

It's not to say the stereotype of "Asian tiger moms" is a myth, but it's not as prevalent in Asia as western culture would lead you to believe.
I suspect it's the self-selecting nature of the phenomenon: women who end up within the sights of the western community are typically the aggressive type, for example who considers marrying western white men a "win" (due to western countries generally being richer, at least in the past), or in some way try very hard to integrate themselves into western culture.
Note that "aggressive" does not necessarily have to be a negative trait, it's how generations of Asian families lifted themselves out of poverty (and marrying a middle-class white man was one way to do it), just that it's not really an actual feature of Asian women or Asian moms, and more so caused by the self-selecting group that end up being noticed by westerners.
